Anyone Interested In Left-handed Musical Instruments?

As a trumpet player, I’ve noticed that trumpets are designed in such a way that they really can’t be played left-handed — sure, it works for a while, but you have to get a really strange grip on the horn and your hand cramps up pretty bad after a minute or two.
I have both of my hands, so this is only a problem for me when I’m trying to play two trumpets simultaneously, but I could see it being a huge problem for someone who has little or no use of the right hand. Now, I’ve recently lost a financial job, so I’m just sitting around for a few months and living off of savings before going back to school; in the meantime, I was considering buying up some instruments, modifying them, and selling them to make a little extra money while I wait. Would anyone be interested in buying such a thing, or for that matter any other kind of modified brass instruments?

Learning Trombone? Previous Musical Experience?

Well I am primarily a cellist, with a bit of guitar and violin knowledge, but absolutely no experience playing wind instruments, i have been a musician for 4 years and I am think about picking up the trombone. I am looking primarily for input of those who play both string and brass instruments who could give me some insight into some knowledge that will crossover (aside from musicality and theory) or what previous habits might hinder me. I am also curious as to whether I should buy a student instrument or lease one, I would prefer to buy rather than lease and if I should buy what price range should I be looking for as I would want an instrument that would still satisfy me when I reach an intermediate level. Thank you in advance for your advice on these questions/topics, and sorry for rambling.

Why Are Brass Band Instruments Always In The Key Of B Flat? Can You Play A Song Written In Another Key?

For instance on a guitar the Key of B flat is very difficult (altho you can use a capo). A harmonica can be bought in several different Keys.

I’m Planning On Learning To Play The Clarinet. ?

I currently play trombone and sousaphone and my I’m thinking about learning the clarinet as well. I already know how to read music, key signatures, time signatures, etc. My questions are as follows:
1. How difficult will it be to switch to a reed instrument from a brass instrument?
2. What are some good books to buy to help learn?
3. What brand of clarinet is best for a student?

Renaissance Musical Instrument?

It’s a musical instrument I saw at a renaissance fair. It was a wooden or brass V shaped with a wooden or brass Bar in the middle. It’s hand held with both hands on the two sides. I’d like to have a picture or even better where to buy such an instrument.
Thanks

My Boyfriend Used To Play The Saxophone Back In The Day And I Wanted To Buy Him One, But I’m Clueless!?

My boyfriend played the sax when he was in grade school and was THAT kid who played with the ADVANCED band. . . so special LOL. Anyway, he had gotten all excited talking about how good he was and how happy it made him and I was thinking about buying him a used sax to bring back some memories, but I know absolutely nothing about brass instruments or which brand is better than which or what might suit his needs best. He’s probably not going to play it for hours on end each day, but I’m guessing he will play it from time to time. Any suggestions as to what brand I ought to pursue? Or any general qualities to look for in a used saxophone? Thanks!

What Instrument Could I Easily Switch To From Clarinet?

I play the clarinet for marching and pep band at school. But I’d like to either play another instrument for concert band or stick with clarinet and learn another instrument on the side. Either way, I’d REALLY like to learn another band instrument!
I’ve played for only 2 years, so I’m not great. But I love music and band. What would be the easiest as far as embechure (spelling?) goes? I do own a saxophone but I’m not completely sold on the idea. I also have a trombone (lovely, professional, my parents found it at a garage sale) and a bassoon. I’ve tried playing the trombone a bit (just trying to get a noise out of it) and I like it, but I can’t imagine actually getting the right notes out of it! I’m so used to either having the fingering, rathering than controlling it with my embechure! Any advice on this?
I could always buy another instrument, as well.
Mostly I’m just not sure if I want to go with brass or woodwinds still. Brass would be a change, but I might get bored because I’m so used to all the clarinet parts.
So really, I just don’t know. . . I need advice :)
