I bought this saxophone knowing I could send it back if it wasn't good enough. I threw the box away. It was much better than I expected particularly after reading the bad review by the band teacher. I read it again and realized that the teacher had a negative opinion regarding any Chinese made saxophones; not this brand in particular.
This saxophone is very well machined. It is made for easy repair: the key guard is securely screwed in and the bell is not soldered but detachable. The detachable bell is not something I would expect to find in this low price range. The neck fits tight and the thumb pad is larger than usual offering more comfort. The keys move smoothly. The lacquer finish is brilliant and the engraved decor and Hazelton crest on the bell are gorgeous finishing touches. The sound is full; worthy of appreciation.
I do recommend a new neck strap and mouth piece. They aren't that expensive to replace and the ones that come with the saxophone are not as nice quality as the saxophone itself. This sax comes with one reed, a cleaning cloth, neck strap, and a hard black carrying case. As far as student saxophones go, this is money well spent. |
Decent for the price.

This is a decent student alto for the price. I got it for half the price during a lightning deal, so it was well worth it. I have played many brands of altos in the past and this seems equivalent to a Yamaha. This is definitely only a student sax and not meant for intermediate or advanced players. This is nothing like the Selmer Mark VII I previously had, but it is a decent one for a student or someone that intends to upgrade in the future.
Saxophone came well packaged and the case is nice. Do not forget to purchase a pad saver, cork grease, neck strap, and reeds. Although it does come with one reed and a neck strap, both are cheap and you will need more reeds anyway. The neck strap feels like vinyl and made my neck sweat after only 5 minutes - felt disgusting. Definitely look for a nice padded sax strap - Rico makes a good one that Amazon sells. I also recommend upgrading the mouthpiece if you are going to be playing in Jazz or concert band, but that is a personal preference from having professional ones in the past. |
