Great tool for bass guitar

This has a large key pocket to hold the large bass guitar tuning keys. A strong string cutter for thick bass strings is incorporated into the folding handle. The cutter design is similar to a cable cutter, so it cuts wound strings very well. I use the cutter for my treble guitar strings also. The winder handle is just a little wonky to use because it folds, but it works!
Bass String Winder & Cutter

At about $8 all in, for this winder/cutter, it's not worth fumbling around with standard wire cutters and cranking your tuning machines by hand. I swapped out strings on two basses (1 open gear and 1 closed gear tuning heads) much easier than without this tool. It makes a clean cut and helps start your first couple windings easier. You could get by without one of these (as I had for about 25 years), but for $8 - why?

Finally, a winder that has features and durability designed into it. The pocket of the winder head appears to be large enough to handle any tuning peg head size and the molded plastic body appears to be thick enough to stand up to a lot of use. The pivot point doesn't bind when using the winder as has a couple other cheaper models I've purchased (and thrown away) over the years. The string cutter is a great feature and appreciated, works well regardless of string composition type,...stainless, chromes, core-types, etc. The price seems fair enough. I've seen a couple of battery powered models for not much more money, but if you're in that big a hurry to change strings you're living life too fast...... get a 'roadie' to do it for you.... why have to remember to carry spare batteries.

This was a gift for my Father. I don't know if this is the right thing that he wanted for Christmas. I can't say if I liked it or not due to, I don't ha or play the guitar. But personally I think that this is a great gift for a persont that does play the guitar.
